I really like to dance.

I’m 21 years old, with the heart of a wanderlust but the responsibilities of a college student. My current mantra? “One more year.”

I’m currently a managing editor for Kentucky Kernel, the University of Kentucky’s daily newspaper. I’ve been working at the paper since my bright-eyed days as a freshman, starting out as a staff photography and working my way up the chain: summer photo editor, summer editor in chief, then photo editor. A photographer since days as co-chief photographer for my high school’s yearbook, it’s only in the past year that I’ve truly come to realize all the potentials and beauties and power that a photograph possess. It’s incredible.

As a wanderlust, I found a way to make it out West and took a semester off during my sophomore year to travel and intern at a shoe company in Santa Monica, CA. I took pictures, spent my mornings running five to eight miles along the beach, watching the sun rise over LAX and watched the sun set into the ocean. I think people smile more in Los Angeles. It’s probably all the sunshine. Now I’ve found my way to even more sunshine in the sunny state of Florida. As an intern at the Naples Daily News, I’m learning about the difficulties, challenges and rewards that come with working at a daily newspaper in a time when people believe the industry is dying.

In my senior year, I’m spending most of my time in the office at the newspaper. If I’m not there, I’m either studying, riding my bike, taking picture or dancing.

Because in the end, despite the stress, the homework and the monotony of my day-to-day routine, all I really want to do is dance.
