this is a place where i feel at home
When you don’t have a lot to do on the weekends, but you know you need to keep your self occupied, you become creative.
My original plan this weekend was to spend it at the pool, but all that changed when a helicopter fell from the sky and landed on the pool house last Thursday. So there went that idea. then I thought I would get my haircut. Unfortunately, there were no openings at the only place can afford in Naples (and it isn’t even in Naples, it’s in Bonita Springs) so I made an appointment for Wednesday. Then I thought I’d go see a movie by myself, but never actually got around to it and instead watched High School Musical I and II — the sing-along version. Thought I might go to the beach, but I checked the weather before getting ready and saw the heat index was 104F. No thank you.
I spent the majority of this weekend scouring the Internet for new music. I’ve been re-watching a lot of Grey’s Anatomy and some of the songs from the last few episodes of season five have blown me over. In particular, To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra.
I remember listening to this album when WRFL first got it, and while I liked it a lot, it was always a little too slow for my noon-2 p.m. time slot. If I had had it during my 3-6 a.m. slot, though, it would have been a frequently played album.

Anyways, this song gives me goosebumps. I love songs with a strong instrumental influence, and the piano carries it all the way through and helps it reach this incredible peak where you’ve got strings that just go at it and the singer’s voice is so painful and beautiful it send chills down your spine.
I’m working on a couple mixes right now and I’ll make sure to include it on there, but if you have a chance be sure to check out The Cinematic Orchestra’s album, Ma Fleur. It’s great for those drives at night where you need to center yourself, or when you’re lying in bed at night with the blinds up, reflecting on life with the moonlight filling your room with it’s glow. Seriously, so good.

Not so funny. It’s got to be hotter than 89F outside for to feel like 102F. And people wonder why I don’t go to the beach…why would I subject myself to that heat? It’s just no fun, kids.
“Watch out for bugs”
Quick update: It took my mother and I two days, but I’m now in Naples, Florida after an almost 16 hour roadtrip. Found a place to live while I’m interning at the Naples Daily News. It’s only five minutes away from work and about 10 minutes away from the beach. It’s humid and there are lots of bugs. And rain. Currently at a Panera using the internet. Pretty bored but I guess I’ll find something to do until I start on Tuesday.
Looks like Panera is closing. I’ll write more soon and upload a few photos as well.
